mar rojo 19 spring tips title

I do not know you, but I’m starting to be a little tired of this winter. I’d love to set fire to my thick socks and flannel pajamas, and today I attempted to walk out the door on bare legs. I wasn’t really convinced I would be able to make it, and the truth is that I had to pull my leotards from the handbag after 10 minutes walk.

It really should’t complain since where we live we have a nice mediterranean weather, but every year around this time Iget these cravings for spring time, I can not help it.

So while we wait for spring to finally arrive, I have made this quite random selection of tips to get ready.

1. THINK 70s.

No major discovery here, it was evident on the runways and now on the coming new collections in stores. I’m so in love with Zara’s latest lookbook!

To start getting the groove of the coolest decade, the first thing we should find is a good pair of flared jeans.
I know it was hard getting used to skinny jeans, and now that we have managed to be comfortable with them, we’re back to flared! You can complain and refuse, but you and I know that in the end you will end up wearing what’s in, so the sooner we resign ourselves the better. Also, flared pants were always the coolest, and if you aren’t convinced yet, take a look at these two examples:

You may have been doing this for a while already. If you haven’t, it’s time you start half tucking shirts, t-shirts and even sweaters. Look at the top two photos and check hoy all things tucked look better. If you need more evidences, here’s the tucking queen.

It isn’t rocket science, but you can check this tutorial if you want to learn the proper technique.

Were you crazy about bandanas twenty years ago? I had several of them and loved them, so I’m so happy they are back!

You resisted last year believing it was going to be a one season trend, but they are still here, they have the 70s groove ant they are still really cute, so maybe this spring is the time to get one.

I’m pretty blown away with this trick that I have been doing a couple of months. It turns out that the fibers of the towels, tend to get our hair more frizzy. Start using an old t-shirt instead, you will notice a significant difference.

Here‘s the site where I found it:

6. ALSO THINK 60s.
The 70 are back, but so are the 60s. We will shortly talk about a shaped skirts and nice little dresses, but for now, I leave you with a tutorial from the great Leandra Medine from Man Repeller. She shows us how to get a  nice 60s hair with the aid of just a bobby pin.

I loved this tip and can’t wait to try and let you know the result. Click here to read in detail, but basically, what the girls at The Beauty Department’s tell us is how the facial water spray works great when were getting waves on our hair, to get a messy finish. They recommend the Evian spray because of the super fine mist it creates…we’ll see.

Are you willing to try any of these? Have you got your bandanas back? And what about the flares, willing to give them a try, or sticking to you skinnies?

HOW I ORGANIZED MY PANTRY (II) Mason jars, spices and chalk paint.

This post continues with last week’s organization tips. You have to forgive me for the thousands photos, especially for such a silly issue, but when my little one started playing with the jars, I couldn’t stop taking pictures of those hands and then selecting the final ones for the post was so hard!

For the lids, I used the Authentico Chalk Paint that I bought it at All Washi Tape, an online crafts store, but also a really cute blog loaded with great DIY ideas, techniques and workshops. About the Chalk Paint, I suppose you already know this paint, but if you don’t, it basically resumes to all pros, no cons. Non toxic, the colors are beautiful, as well as the matte finish and you can paint virtually any surface without primers or sanding. Also of course, you can draw over it in chalk.

HOW I ORGANIZED MY PANTRY (I) Mason jars and chalk labels.

organizing-pantry-mason-jars-chalkIt’s already two years since we moved to this house and we really love it, but upon arrival, the first weeks were quite complicated. We had a newborn baby, a two year girl and a lot less storage space.

We had to work it out all around the house to fit everything, and the kitchen was the biggest challenge. One of the most simple solutions we came to was taking the pantry to open shelves. That way we managed to get everything else inside the cupboards.

DSC_0447Maybe you also lack some space, you want it all more handy, or you just, like me, love these open shelved kitchens. Anyhow, if you decide to do the  same , Continue reading

This is a very special post to me, and it is because I am totally impressed with huge talent the girls at MITU. have. They make the most beautiful head dresses in the world. Also, they have a great style, you can check it on their blog, where you’ll also be able to find all information about their showrooms. You’ll want it all, you are warned.

A couple of years ago they made a gorgeous broad bream hat for a very special wedding I had. I went to the wedding with seven month pregnant bump and my super hat. There were no comments on my belly, but the whole wedding came to ask about my beautiful headdress. I felt so proud of my girls!

There goes the second part of kids play houses, here you have the first one. These are more affordable, you can make them yourselves in one or two evenings, so the hardest part is to choose which one you’ll make, they are all so cool!

Two years ago, I spent the whole summer looking all around the web for inspiration because I wanted to build a little play house for my daughter. Play houses are the coolest thing in the world and I would have given anything for having one when I was a kid, so when I finally made one for my child, she loved it, but I loved it more!
After a lot of searching we decided to make a tipi for the garden. I want to write a tutorial on the tipi soon, but meanwhile I’ll show you some of the cutest ideas I found. Since I have got so many adorable huts, I’ll show them to you in two or three posts. (here is the second one) There are some so lovely that I wish I had four houses,  to fill them up with play houses. Now that I have my sewing machine, maybe I make a folding one for the living room, I’ll let you.

Today I’m leaving you some exterior play houses, for gardens or patios, shortly I’ll come with more economical examples, made of cardboard or fabric.

The wooden wagon can be purchased at this Dutch shop, where you have thousands of beautiful things. Take a look at the other play houses, the bunk beds and furniture, you’ll love them all.
